|a THE CREATION OF STATE SUPPORT FOR ROCK MUSIC IS YET ANOTHER PARTICULARITY OF FRENCH CULTUREL POLICY. THE FIRST GOAL OF THIS THESIS IS TO DESCRIBE THE HISTORY OF THIS SUPPORT. THE DISCOURSE ABOUT ROCK WHICH HAD BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN LEGITIMAZING THE FIELD OF ROCK HAS FINALLY NOT MADE IT SUITABLE FOR CULTURAL POLICY. YET THE DEBATE AMONG OFFICIALS OF THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE HAS IMPOSED CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AS THE NEW REFERENCE FOR ITS SUPPORT. BY MAKING STATIST CULTURAL DISCOURSE MORE RATIONAL AND CLOSER TO INDIVIDUALS, THIS REFERENSE HAS MADE THE SUPPORT OF ROCK MUSIC POSSIBLE. ROCK-MUSIC POLICY WHICH TESTIFIES TO THE CHANGES IN STATE SUPPORT OF CULTURE, ALSO OBLIGES ONE TO WONDER ABOUT THE LIMITS OF SUCH SUPPORT. THE DISCOURSE ON ROCK IMPOSES ITS ORDER IN THE FIELD AND QUESTIONS STATIST SUPPORT. WHEREAS THE LATTER FAVORED REASON AND DURABILITY, THE SPECIFIC AESTHETICS OF ROCK HAVE LED IT INTO THE REALMS OF DISSOLUTENESS, EMOTIONAL DEMONSTRATIONS, IMMEDIACY AND THE EPHEMERAL. HOWEVER, THE UNDERLYING RATIONALITY OF CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AND THE PARADOXES OF THE DISCOURSE HAVE MAINTAINED THIS SUPPORT WITHIN THE LIMITS OF STATIST POLICY.
